They come from a place of stereotyping and sweeping generalization. There should be no distinction imo between aggression due to (what we perceive as) pure ethnic hatred, and that due to some manifestation of collective guilt. That’s frankly how antisemites (and bigots of all kinds) have frequently justified it.

On a positive note, I heard a Biden admin reaction to it, which affirmed everyone’s right to protest, but did not “both sides” it. It was unequivocal in its condemnation of the allegations of targeting of Jewish students.
